Even after 17 years, Dec 8th serves as a painful reminder of the day John Lennon died. Fortunately, we also have many reminders of John's life and we can take some comfort in the knowledge that people across the world were equally impressed by his many talents.Acknowledgements: John Taylor kindly sent in photos of his day at New York City's Strawberry Fields on Dec 8, 1997. Many thanks to Crystal for also taking a trip out to the Strawberry Fields memorial and placing a copy of our messages there. And finally, a big thank you to Paul who delivered our messages to two different locations in Liverpool, England: the Beatles memorial at the Cavern Walks and the original Strawberry Field (a forested area where John often played as a child). Paul also provided a few photos of his visits to each of these locations.

It's hard to believe that another year has passed since that terrible night in 1980. We enjoy listening to John Lennon's music and happily remembering his many accomplishments during his lifetime. We remember his unique personality and his incredible popularity. Yet we are also saddened to think that such a fascinating person is no longer with us. We may still be bitter, repeatedly asking ourselves why John had to go. We are still shocked at the senseless act which took John away before his time. However, the bullets of that cold December night couldn't extinguish the bright light of John's spirit. When we think back about John's legacy and his achievements, we are comforted that his spirit is still alive, and each of us can claim a part of it. John Lennon was more than a musician. He was an artist. A poet. A writer. A father. A husband. A visionary. A creative voice. A sense of humor. A genuinely honest person who had nothing to hide. The writer of "Imagine" was all of these and more -- and John Lennon will be forever remembered.Dec 6, 1997

an angel born, sent to make peace. his words touching our souls, reaching out to those in pain, ...how can this man change so many souls...are his words so powerful that after 17 years we still remember like yesterday...that painful night...why must we remember, we must suffer with him...share the pain he felt...how one wishes they could thank him in some way...what an honor if they could only be with him some day...but we all will be there in the end...and we shall shine like the stars above...with this angel as our moon...with this angel as our sun...under this beautiful angel we all shine onDec 6, 1997

I first 'met' Lennon's music when i was 9-10 years old, when a friend of mine brougt me a cassette of The Beatles. It was ABBY ROAD. My life has been changed since that moment, and i started to listen to his music, bought lots of Beatles and Lennon records, books, etc, and even went to the trip in Liverpool, which i hardly recomended. His music, his lifestyle, his personality - they are all so special, and will be remembered for the rest of people's life. JOHN LENNON - 1940-1980 - I'LL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU. Who can ever forget such a man as John Lennon? On Monday, I will be thinking of him, and his Love and his works for Peace, but I will also be thinking of Yoko, Sean, and Julian, who he Loved with his whole heart. As long as we remember the Love and the Peacefullness he had, we will always remember John Lennon.Dec 6, 1997

Even though I wasn't around then, I still know everything you did good for the world. People have told me stories of how you changed thier lives. You have also changed mine. You told the world to Give peace a Chance. Well I know I am. So are many others. I feel you still are here telling us to Imagine all the people. The thing is, you are still here. Telling me and others love could save us all. Even though I wasn't here yet, I sill know what you did. You left your footprints on the world. Thanks John. I love YouDec 6, 1997

Even bullets couldn't silence you, John. You may be gone forever, but the music will live on for eternity. Your words are forever, and nothing can change it. For me, your music is like a shelter in the pouring rain of life, a refuge when everything else is wrong. It breathes life into my limp spirit. Your body is gone, John. It will never return. But your spirit will stay, like the music. Nothing can take away a spirit. Only the shell that houses your bright spirit was taken on that cold December day in 1980. The rest of you shines on, like the moon, and the stars, and the sun.Dec 6, 1997

"After all is really said and done, the two of us are really one..." And hopefully, it is so. Your world is in partnership with our world, for otherwise your incredible vibes would not have survived this bloody long. There isn't much to say. Just *sigh* and ask "why"? Our thanks cannot compare with what you've brought us, music, religion and art-wise, but we try. Thanks to Sammy are almost as huge for this place where we can laugh and cry together, but the enormous thanks are to you, honey. We miss you terribly. The whole world does. And I'm sure most of us would have wanted it to be different, but since it wasn't, we've only got your memory to keep alive, and that's all of ours duty. Just by being peaceful and raising wonderful kids who will follow in our and YOUR footsteps should be enough :) It's hard enough as it is... Keep on sending us your heavenly rays, sweety. To John, I was born two years after your unfortunate death. But as a Beatle fan, December 8th is a day of grief for me. It represents a day of world mourning. The world mourning over the untimely death of such a great musician. And that same day, two sons and a widow mourn the death of their loved father and husband. A great man dies on December 8th, 1980, just barely 40 years old. Though your presence is greatly missed, I remember what you left for us to treasure -- great music. Your music is your legacy. remember love... remember love... seventeen years have passed. i still remember. staying up all night, pulling in the new york radio stations. in spirit i stood with the mourners outside the dakota. how could it have happened, who would do this. all he ever asked was to give peace a chance. reagan's elected and a month later lennon's murdered, you can't tell me there isn't some kind of connection even if it's not a conspiracy. love and only love will see us through. do you believe? this year i'm 40 myself... and i still believe.Dec 6, 1997

Well, tomorrow's the "balck day" once again. I see it falls on a Monday as well. I remember another Dec 8th, Dec. 8th, 1980. Or perhaps I should say the day I lost one of the most beloved public figures from my childhood.Actually, I didn't find out until Dec. 9th as I wasn't near a TV when Howard Cosell broke the news to the world. And I didn't have the radio on in my car, as I was listening to "Yesterday, And Today" by the Beatles on an 8-Track.Most likely at the very moment John was fighting for his life, I was being comforted by his voice.Much as it had made me feel better since I was a tot.I can't describe the sick, hopeless feeling that came over me when I awoke the morning of the 9th to see the headlines blaring "ex-Beatle John Lennon Shot To Death In New York!".I can tell you I felt like a rather large part of what made me who I was up to that point died right then and there.Maybe it sounds melodramatic, but I'm not overstating it one bit! The world grew a bit colder for me that day.My long distance "friend" from the happier days of my childhood wouldn't be making the rest of the trip through time with me.HOW COULD SUCH A THING HAVE HAPPENED? WHY! WHY! WHY!? GOD DAMMIT!Anyway, It's been 17 years now and I still miss my "friend" John .Even though I never met him, he did me and quite a few other people on this unfair, often hate filled planet a world of good just being in it,being himslef, and singing a song or two.And it hurt like hell when he left us. I won't be playing any of his records tomorrow, I couldn't for a long time after he died, but I'll be thinking about him, you can bet on it!I'll probably relive the whole time period of Dec.8th/9th,1980 as I have everytime this date comes up since it happened. And I'll look at all the Christmas decorations that are starting to make their appearance as I did on the night of the 9th, and wonder to myself why such a terrible thing had to happen at such a happy time of year, and why with all of the beautiful lights everything seemed to suddenly look so dark. One of the most beautiful songs ever was written by John - "In My Life" -- I began singing this song to my son when he was a newborn. He grew up to be a big Beatles fan. In it, she stated a desire that at least one person would read it and so at least one person would do a good deed and then that person could in turn pass it on. Please share it and pass it on.Dec 6, 1997

Dear John, I was born in 1979 so by the time you were killed I wasn't old enough to know you. Now however, I feel like I know you as a close friend. Of course I realize that no matter how much I've read about you or heard about you or seen footage on you I will never know the true you because you were taken before I could. At times I get pissed off that you are dead and that I'll never have that chance to see you perform and that you'll never have a chance to make people happy and think at the same time. Sometimes people walk the face of the earth with no real purpose in life. Sometimes people have a purpose, but they are unsure of what it is. John Lennon was the purpose for many people, and his destiny was cut short by the twisted thoughts of another. The short cries of the bullet leaving it's home were the same as the short cries of Lennon when he left his. Although he holds a special place in my heart, his home was with the woman and sons he adored. It was taken all to soon. The things that Lennon accomplished and the things that he could have accomplished were taken away in a few gun shots by a violence crazed lunatic. It is weird how the man who protested violence with his entire life gave his life in the end. On this 17th year of his abscence, many people will mourn his death, some people will not even remember nor care to remember him. I on the other hand have chosen to do what most people in my position would do and that is to pray for his soul. There is no one real religion, as Lennon suggested, but there is a time and place for every god and this is one of those times. In the words of peace and love, ChristyDec 6, 1997

Well, it's that time of year again. *heavy sigh* It's hard to even think of Dec. 8 nowadays. It just seems so wrong. I just wish you weren't killed. Sure, you were no angel (small grin), but the fact you were human like the rest of us made you all the more likable. For some reason the world seems to BS around, but you never seemed to care what people thought of you (at least in public). I love you for that. I love your music, and it stands up to the test of time. I definatly relate to some of the angsts of life. You should be proud up there watching over the world. So many people feel comfort in knowing they aren't alone in this lonely world. I'm only 21, but I feel as though I know you. You mean so much to a lot of people. I love you very much and I miss you. My Dear John, Well, John, it's been 17 years since we last heard from you down here. I know that December 8 is a day that I can't help but feel a little sad, but I like to remember your life and accomplishments on this day, as well.Your music and LIFE have influenced me so much; given me something to aim for.Never before has there been such a beautiful, shining light, and never one that was so crudely stolen as yours. I want to recognize your love for humanity and general goodness and trust you displayed. I also would like to state my support and love for your soulmate, Yoko, on this day. But, most of all, I want to thank you for all you gave to all of humankind: your music, your thoughts, your love, your words, and even your life.... Our thoughts and love are with you... I can't believe it. I cant believe it's almost Dec.8. I can't believe it's been 17 years, and I wans't even around yet when you died, John. (I was born 3 1/2 years after.) I can't believe you're gone. When I listen to Bealte music, it seems like you're still alive and young and rockin'. I get lost in the music and the wonderful sound of your voice. Oh, your voice is the BEST, Johnny. You made monotone sound GOOD. (If you can't make monotone sound good, no one can.) Your voice sends shivers down my spine, it's so wonderful. It's so wonderful that sometimes I feel like crying when I hear it because you're not around anymore. Then, it hits me that you're gone. It's bloody painful. I cry every time I hear "In My Life" and "Imagine". It's so unfair that someone (whom I refuse to mention) could just take your life like that! That @ss makes me mad, Johnny! You were robbed! It's not fair that I'll never meet you. I want to sooooooooo bad, but I never will. On Monday, I will wear black. I will be lighting candles for you. If I lived closer, I would be going to Strawberry Fields. I will be remembering you on this awful day. Take care, John, wherever you are! Love you and miss you, Abbey Spencer, age 13 1/2Dec 6, 1997

I am fourteen. John Lennon died three whole years before i was born, and yet he has inspired my life in so many, many ways. I didn't even know who he was until 1994, when i had to do a report on the beatles in the fifth grade. Now, i can't image life without knowing the beatles, and most of all, john. He was a genius in such am amazing and astonishing way that i can't comprehend it. He has influenced my outlook on life so much, my respect for the people who lived during the sixties and seventies. So many people say that generation X is horrific in our music, our dress, our additude. I hate that word, additude. i'm crying for joh lennon as i write this. i have for the past three years. Generation X will be the best generation in terms of technology, but in my mind, John Lennon was the best in music. We love you John.Dec 7, 1997

In the world there is hate. In the world there is irreversable filth in which people must live everyday. John Winston Lennon was a flickering light of optimism in all that depressing. He would spread love to the world, and people beleived that this man would help bring on a moral revolution. But instead, on December 8th 1980 Mark David Chapman, a man so caught up in his own self indulgant belief, ended that dream. He took it upon himself to kill one of the few sane and un-currupt saviours this world has ever seen. People will walk in and out for years to come, but one man, will stay etched in for an eternaty. That man is John Lennon.Dec 7, 1997

John, What can I say to such a wondeful man? I wasn't born until a year after you died, but when I hear your music I feel like you're still here. It wasn't long ago that I hadn't even heard of you, but now I couldn't *imagine* not knowing who you are. This will be the first year that December 8th will be anything more than just another day to me. It doesn't seem fair that the world lost such a wonderful man, but most of all it doesn't seem fair that you lost your life. Your songs have brought me and my mom closer together. John Lennon was one of the few true leaders that the world has had the pleasure of knowing, the others being Yitzhak Rabin and Mahatma Gandhi. He showed the world how to live in peace, but not everyone could grasp such a basic concept as love and peace. This is the reason why I, a sophmore at blacksburg high school, can not stand society today. Everyone is obssesed with hurting, killing, harming, or destroying someone or something else. Earlier this year in gym class, I was playing soccer, and one of the athletes accidently fractured my toe. This did not bother me, what bothered me was that he, and many others continued to laugh at my pain. This is the result of a lack of emotional leaders. Sure we have Benny Hinn preaching the messages of Jesus, Luois Farakahn preaching the messages of Islam, Pat Buchanan preaching the messages of intolerance, and many other "leaders" who try to brain wash todays youth into thinking that only they are right, and everyone else is wrong. These people do not send the messages of love, peace, sharing, and tolerance that John Lennon did. But rather, laugh at someone who is different, laugh at someone who is in pain, and look out only for yourself, because god will look out for the rest. This is all complete bull****, and maybe if John Lennon were alive today, then this would not be the case. Although I am too young to have lived through the John Lennon years, I have still found ways to see him, hear him, and follow him. After listening to imagine once over the summer, i immediatley realized exactly what John Lennon was trying to tell everyone. After playing a few of his songs on my guitar, I discovered how to play Imagine, Jealous Guy, Let it Be, and Hey Jude on my piano. This turned out to be very beneficial in my quest for peace. I made it my duty to continue his quest, in school, at home, and anywhere else that i can. The generation that grew up with John Lennon is starting to abandon his teachings in order to join more conservative standpoints. That is why i call on every young American, every young European, Israeli, Arab, Muslim, Indian, Chinese, Latin American, Oriental, African, and Australian, everyone who is classified in the "generation next", to stand up and join me in promoting the teachings of John Lennon. For when we all make the discovery that i did the first time that i listened to imagine, then maybe, " the world will live as one." I am in the proccess of trying to set up a nation wide, or maybe even world wide, group of teenagers who want to promote peace, love, nature, and most everything that has to relate to a peace movement. John Lennon's teachings / oppinions have a major role in the shaping of my philosophy on peace. I encourage every teenager who can, to email me @ [email protected], and soon, together, we can establish a world wide peace organization. I am not calling for another hippy revolution, even though i would not mind it. I am asking everyone who can, to corroborate this effort, leading to an eventual outcome of a cry for peace. Because our voices can and will be heard, we may only be dreamers now, but remember, we are not the only ones. Sincerely, Moriel.Dec 7, 1997

John, I was born one month after your death. But, how strange: for me it's like you never left at all. You left a part of you in everyone who ever listened to your songs, and that's why you're, somehow, still alive for us all - still here, watching over and giving reasons to us to keep it going......after all...we all shine on...Dec 7, 1997

John Lennon inspired many of us here in Poland. When he died we were getting through the martial law, so a lot of tragic news were delivered to us those days. There were tanks and army on our streets, but in that cold winter we listened to John's songs and imagined that the world will be better some day. Now we want to share John's dream and the dream of so many people about peace in the world. We remember John his work. life and family. Since I work for the local radio station (Radio Grudziadz) we will play a lot of John's music and talk with people beeing one family.Dec 7, 1997

My letter to John Lennon was written earlier, and i now realized that i left out something. When i was praising the true leaders of this world, i left out one of the greatest leaders, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Also assassinated, and a fallen leader, true to his last word, just like John Lennon. To John, even though you did not believe in heaven or hell, wherever you are, may peace be with you. Moriel.Dec 7, 1997

All I can say is that even though I was only 14 months old when John Lennon tragically left this world, I can say that in some ways it feels like he never left. His music with The Beatles is still very popular, and his solo material is still going strong as well. Plus he still tends to pop up on television from time to time. On Dec. 8th as a tribute to John, the only album that I'll be listening to is Imagine. I think that's the perfect album to listen to, to remember John and what he stood for. We miss ya John Lennon! May you still continue to live through your music.Dec 7, 1997

To me John Lennon represents what people aspire to be and at the same time would not take on for any reason. He had it all: money, fame, love, and everything else people want out of life. He was also given a job, a duty in this life unlike that of anyone else. John Lennon took on the resposibility of opening peoples eyes and minds to the world around them. In return for this labor Lennon recived only two public debts of "gratitude." The first was a shot in the back, the second was a memorial of his death; and celabration of his life. Thank you John Lennon for making me realize, for making me see and for making me think...Dec 7, 1997

I found this website through the messages left on the memorial on October 10th '97. I was moved by the many messages left there. Strawberry Fields is a special place to visit throughout the year, but especially on the anniversaries of his birth and death where a multitude of people gather to remember his messages of peace and love.Dec 7, 1997

I was yet to be born for another year when John was killed. I've known him for two years, and can't Imagine a time when I didn't. Words cannot justify the loss we all have suffered, yet the world does continue. John has inspired my life, and not a day goes by that I don't think of him, and the joy he brought and continues to bring to countless others such as myself. It is hard to believe he's not here, and yet the void is constantly present. Tomorrow, as every year, I will wear black. Not much is left to say, except that I love John, and all that he accoplished and stood for, and I hope he has found peace at last. Thank you, John.Dec 7, 1997

John-You changed my life in oh so many ways. I cry about you all the time, and wonder just how my life would be if you were still here. You died way before your prime. I dread tomorrow so much. When i visited the Dakota and Strawberry Fields over a year ago, it was like a dream come true. I couldn't stop crying. I hugged and kissed everything in sight. I remember the last glimpse of the Dakota i got. The sun was going down and an orange color was reflecting off of the windows. I could not speak, just stare and think 'Why? Why?'. But your death has done much good for some, and it was obviously your time to go. But why in such a way? Why did he have to do that to you? Why must Sean and Julian have no father? Why must Yoko not have her sole mate? This is the only day that i pity Yoko, even though she made you happy for so long, but screwed up everything in the end. I would like to thank you for making Beautiful Boy, my song for my own son, who i donned with the name Sean Winston, after you and your son. I grieve for you, and am thankful for what you did for this world. You inderectly helped me through alot, and i thank you for that. I wonder what you would think if you knew me and knew how you helped me? Well, i am babbling nonsense, and making this message way to long. You will never see this, but at least it will be in your aura. Peace, my love. Amanda and Sean WinstonDec 7, 1997

Wow......what do I say to a man who's been dead for so long but who's spirit lives on? John Lennon was a man of geniusness. He was a leader. He made people realize where they were going and what their world was becomming. He was a man of peace who was wasted away by a senseless act of violence--two opposing forces that have been going on for so long. John's spirit lives inside all of us, making us realize the good side of life, but also making us realize another thing-- life is short. Live it to the best of your abilities. John, we all love you from the bottom of our hearts. "Life is very short, and there's no time for fussing and fighting, my friend." Peace, Love, and John Lennon Forever, Love, DanielleDec 7, 1997

dear john, when i was in seventh grade a friend of mine made me listen to the beatles white album and from that moment on my life changed. that was nine years ago and although you are no longer walking on this world, you have been with me through all my years, through all the best and worst times. during your life you never could have conceived of how much you affected us all, if there were but 50 more people who's lives you affected as much as mine you would not be able to conceive of it. if it weren't for you, john, my life would be on a totally different course than it is now. i don't know exactly how it would be different, all i know is that things would not be the same, who or what would have filled the void that you filled? ultimately this question does not matter; the fact of the matter is you were there and when i think of you and how you affected me, i know that a life without your presence is something i cannot conceive of. John Lennon, i can say without hesitation that i love you and i wish that you were here to fill the world with happiness, laughter, honesty, and wisdom. the incoherence of this message is a result of having all these things to say to you and not being able to get it all out. "there are many things that i would like to say to you but i don't know how" the world misses you. In My Life, I love you more, David DornDec 7, 1997

John Lennon is probably my biggest hero, and a profound influence on me as I am a musician. He was the best Beatle, and his solo songs, most notably "Imagine," overshadow some of his previous band's best ones. I am only 17 years old - I was only eight months old when he was killed. I often wonder what it would be like if he was still here. I think every other Lennon fan on the Earth would agree with me when I say he is the most missed rock musician. I'd also like to say that after 17 years we have not forgotten the senseless tragedy, and we are still amazed by your timeless, excellent music. It has helped me through hard times, and I bet it's helped others. We miss you, John. "Wherever you are, you are here."Dec 7, 1997

John, I could never relieve the sadness I feel when I think of how you were taken away from us, and how it hurts to listen to such songs as "Starting Over", "Beautiful Boy" and "Grow Old With Me" knowing that you were never allowed to live that life you were so looking forward to. All because of some screwed up Jesus freak and a remark made in 1966 that was taken out of context. You apologised, but it obviously wasn't enough for that maniac, he considered you a phony for some reason, and he thought he had a God given right to deny you of life and cause sadness and pain to millions just because of what HE thought of you. But to me John, you are not gone forever, you are spiritually still here, I know this sounds weird but I feel your presence sometimes and that always makes me feel better. Your spirit lives on, as does your music and personality, which will never die. We love you John, shine on like the moon, the stars and the sun.....and I'll see you in about 80 years time, so get the lagers stocked up, buddy! :)Dec 7, 1997

No tears, John...I'm goin' to be happy. 'Cause you've made so many people happy during and after your life, I don't want to think about the bad stuff. Maybe that's why it hurt people 17 years ago, and why it still does now. I don't think that ever goes away completely. Only the good die young - I think that's probably true. Except you weren't just good - You were the best. *PS- And you sing better than Paulie- Don't tell him.*Dec 7, 1997

Dear John, I am only 15, so I wasn't there to experience what happened on December 8, 1980....but I still feel the pain as if I had been. I heard "Strawberry Fields Forever" when I was 12 years old and I was instantly hooked on your music and have loved it ever since. John, you touched the world like no other individual. Your music, your personality, your whole life changed the world. It isn't fair that your life ended with the pull of a trigger...who gave Chapman the right to pull out a gun and drag you away from everything you had? Leaving Sean without his daddy and Yoko without the only person that could make her truly happy. Just when your life was getting good. You were happy. It isn't fair that someone else took that away from you. I'm listening to "Hard Times Are Over". John, years after your brilliant mind touched our hearts, the pain is still there at the thought of you being gone. But we know that the hard times are truly over, because we still have your music. Chapman can't take that away...the things you brought to us are still here. The thoughts of peace, the songs of love, the poems and drawings to make us laugh....as I think of you, John, I'm smiling inside. "All you need is love..." You were right, you were so right. John, miss you very much, hope whereever you are that you are happy and that you have been able to watch Sean grow up into a fine young man. Your music will always be remembered as will you. Here's a couple poems: I remember him when he was alive and time went slow. Now he's gone and time slips away all too fast. Only 17 years ago, did he have any idea he would be dead? A victim of senseless violence, a murder, bullets through the back, chest, stuck in the leather jacket. Sean and Yoko, pity for the ones remaining. also Lennon is gone, forever we'll miss him, his words, his music, his thoughts and ideas. Sean and Julian now not have a father, Yoko and Cynthia are now widows. MDC should be rotting in hell or worse for what he did to us and the public. Yet he is only in jail, hopefully someone will kill him if he ever gets out. John will always be remembered, as a Beatle in the 60's, a dad and house-husband in the 70's. Early 80's brought back his music and words, Double Fantasy went gold after 2 weeks out. Last album of his, what a great one. JOHN LENNON 1940-1980 love you John, today and forever. John, I really don't like writing things like this, but I feel that you should know what you mean to everyone. I wasn't lucky enough to be alive when you were, and that I really hate. But I didn't miss a second of your legacy or your music. It's really awful that some pshycho can just walk up to someone and kill them. Chappman not only took a husband and father away from a family, but he took away a hero from a world, and for that he will never truly pay the price. All we can do is to keep your legacy and music alive, and to hope that the future is brighter for the world. Yoko, Sean, Julian, and all of those who were lucky enough to know you personally will be in thoughts and prayers all over the universe tomorrow and everyday that brings them greif. I wonder if John is laughing at all of us right now, 17 years after his death and we are still crying, we still feel the power of his absence. How long will it take us to stop mourning? I can only pray that we will never stop, because when we do, he will die again, die in our memories. Please don't ever let that happen. I love you John. To the most inspirational person of my life....John Lennon. I remember you very well. I first saw you on The Ed Sullivan Show when I was 11 years old. You & Paul,George & Ringo were making musical history.I had the golden opportunity of sharing it with you.I again witnessed you on the huge screen at a drive in movie. I was mezmerized by your music. The Beatles had become part of my life.As I grew older I became entranced & influenced by all of the albums you and the other lads made. From "Meet The Beatles" to "Let It Be"...and everything in between..it was all a truly wonderful experience for me. Though I never did meet you I always wish I had. I kept track of you & watched you grow. I became a devoted fan & follower. When you went solo with your career I became an even more loyal & loving fan.The things you said & done with your music will live on in my soul. You have given me hope.Maybe even some hope for mankind.I will never forget you John.To this day I have had you with me in my heart. I play your music every chance I get.I am always sad when I think of the day The Beatles broke up. No one was to blame. It made you what you are...a great musician.Words cannot express all the emotions that I feel when I think of the day that you were taken away from us. I am sad today...but I am also happy knowing that you did once walked this earth and gave all of us plenty of reasons to love you.I know that you were only a mere human but you gave of yourself so much that you belong in Gods Kingdom.I do remember where I was when I heard the fateful news that you had been insanely murdered on the streets of New York.I still ask myself ...why?....why & how could this happen to a man so young & so forgiving? It was a tragedy. Sometimes I cry & sometimes I laugh but most of all, I pray. It has been a long time since I've seen you around John.It will be along time till I see you again...in Heaven.Rest In Peace John...I Love You! Normally, tommorrow would be a normal day at school. But in reality, tommorrow will be a day of mourning for me. And, if you scroll down to a message left on Dec. 6 by Gary, you'll know exactly what i'll be doing. If you are too lazy to do that, I will be doing good deeds tommorrow. Being extra nice to my English teacher, who i abhor. Smiling through my pain , just so that dejected girl in PE will feel a little bit better about herself. If I do this, I can only hope that others will take the good feeling they get from this, and pass it on in the form of their own good deed. I beg of you who read this, please, do this in remembrance of John tommorrow. And keep doing this every day, so that the world will be a better place, just like John wanted it. John, I wasn't born until 2 1/2 years after you died. In fact, i didn't even know your music until third grade, when my dad bought three Beatles tapes for his new car. But as soon as i heard the first chords of A Day in the Life, I was in pure bliss. You were taken away all too early, Johnny, and I only hope we can pass on your dream. Even though the Beatles are not the most popular group among students of our school, i will wear my Beatle tee with pride tommorrow, as every other day i've worn it and will wear it, WITH PRIDE. Love ya John, have the best day you can, wherever you are.Dec 7, 1997

John, I was 20 when you were killed-I'll never forget that horrible night-it seemed like a nightmare. For years I had hoped it only was a nightmare, and that I'd wake up and you'd still be here. Tis another year without the brillance of the talent of John Lennon. People may think it foolish to remember a man like John, but they just don't see him in the same way that we see him. I feel sorry for those who aren't able to see the genius and heart John put into his work. I wish he were still around today. I'd thank him for all his music. John, I miss you, take care. Hope to see you on the other side someday. Rest in peace, Love. Yours Truly Forever, JudeDec 7, 1997

I have already posted a message here but i have a friedn who doesn't have the web but is very much interested in the Beatles. So i am posting his message for him. "John, in my life you will always be part. I miss you more than that fact that i never knew you. i love you." -GCLHDec 7, 1997

I'm not really sure what I want to say in this message. I know that John is dead, but somehow I'd like to think that all our messages could reach him to where he is now. This year, the anniversary of John's death has especially touched me because two of my friends have attempted suicide recently. I only wish they could realize how many people like John die senselessly, and would see how much their lives can mean to others. Of course, sometimes it's people I never even knew like John who help me to be strong enough to live. One day, I will go to Strawberry Fields myself, but for now, this message being placed there will suffice. Thanks, Sam, for keeping me in touch with a place so far away. Even though you're not with us today, your fans still admire you, and you're still alive in the music that you have created. For that, we all thank you, and remember you, Mr. Lennon. Today, I will proudly celebrate your life, and remember what you have contributed to the world around you. We love, and respect you, John. You truly are a legend.
